Adjusting Nutrition for Your Actual Serving
Nutrition labels show values for a specific serving size, but your actual portion is often different. Divide your portion by the label serving size to get the multiplication factor.
The serving adjuster scales ingredient quantities for a target number of servings without requiring you to recalculate each ingredient manually. It is equivalent to the recipe scaler but framed around serving count rather than batch volume — useful for meal prep and catering.
Key inputs: original serving count and target serving count. The multiplier = target / original. All ingredient quantities multiply by this factor. A recipe for 6 servings scaled to 4 servings uses multiplier 4/6 = 0.667. Half a cup of salt × 0.667 = 0.333 cups (5 tablespoons + 1 teaspoon).
Fractional measurements made practical: 0.333 cups = 5 tablespoons + 1 teaspoon (1 cup = 16 tablespoons; 0.333 × 16 = 5.33 tablespoons = 5 tbsp + 1 tsp). The calculator provides results in the most usable units. For very small fractional amounts (less than 1/8 teaspoon), round to the nearest standard measure or weigh by grams.
Remember the non-linear exceptions (same as Recipe Scaler): adjust leavening agents conservatively for large scale-ups; start with 75% of linearly-scaled salt and spices; cooking time does not scale with serving count. Protein cook time is determined by thickness and internal temperature, never by total batch weight.
